Catalyst layers are mandatory for the electrolysis reaction and chemical resistance of the anode sides’ surface.
Platinum and Iridium are usally applied as coatings.
As these materials are high in price and recovering at end of life is technically costly it’s recommended to reduce their loading on these surfaces.
Existing coating processes need to be adapted to ensure very thin yet sufficient and homogenous layers. After all the coated parts performance is tested on OITB.
Pilot line 4 was used to evaluate performance at cell and stack level.
