High-Performance CCM Testing and Validation on PEM Electrolysis Cells and Stacks

Overview
PL 4 provides testing capabilities of PEM electrolysis cells and short stacks. A fully automated test bench enables the evaluation of CCM materials and MEA components under a wide range of operating conditions, including temperature, pressure, and flow rate. Both short-term performance and long-term stability of the materials can be assessed through current–voltage curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. In addition, product gas analysis (H2 in O2) can be performed.
Key Characteristics & Goals
- Fully automated long-term testing
- Current-voltage curves and impedance spectroscopy
- Product gas analysis (H2 in O2)
- 15 kW cooling power
Benefits & Potential
Within PL4, SMEs can assess the suitability of their products or materials for application in PEM electrolysis. We were enabling targeted optimization of cell design and operating conditions for advanced MEA manufacturing routes and materials. Using an established showcase, companies can have their own components characterized, providing a low-barrier entry into the application of their materials in a PEM electrolyser stack. In addition, short-term performance characterization and long-term stability of the materials can be assessed, to discover their capability. Backed by long-standing expertise, we support companies throughout the path toward practical implementation in water electrolysis.
