Our next First Wave Open Call spotlight lands on C2CAT, a technology company specializing in the development and scale-up of advanced catalyst materials and nanomaterials for sustainable energy and environmental applications.
About the Organisation: C2CAT focuses on bridging the gap between laboratory innovation and industrial implementation through expertise in catalyst synthesis, nanoparticle engineering, catalyst inks, and electrode manufacturing. They work closely with industrial and research partners to develop solutions for hydrogen production, CO₂ utilization, fuel cells, and electrolysis, aiming to accelerate the commercialisation of next-generation technologies that support the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Q&A with Farnaz Sotoodeh:
-
What are your expectations from the Open Calls? “We expect to gain new knowledge and practical know-how in the development and automated manufacturing of high-performance, durable electrodes for alkaline electrolysis. In particular, we are interested in advanced electrode fabrication techniques, process optimization, quality control, and scale-up strategies that can accelerate the transition from laboratory development to industrial production.”
-
What are the next steps for your project? “The next steps are to optimize PGM-free catalyst formulations, develop scalable catalyst inks, automate electrode coating and fabrication processes, validate performance and durability at larger scales, and integrate digital quality control to enable industrial-scale alkaline electrolyser electrode manufacturing.”
-
What is your long-term vision for this work? “This work will support the expansion of C2CAT’s product portfolio beyond catalyst materials. While we currently focus on the development and supply of advanced catalyst products, our long-term goal is to offer fully engineered electrodes and electrode manufacturing solutions for renewable hydrogen production, enabling a stronger position across the clean hydrogen value chain.”
