Meet CLEANHYPRO partner Elcogen.
Elcogen develops and supplies solid oxide fuel cell and electrolysis technologies, enabling the production of affordable green hydrogen and emission-free electricity across diverse sectors, from residential to large-scale industrial applications. Founded in 2001, the Company has its registered office in the UK, its main headquarters in Tallinn, Estonia, and R&D centres of excellence in both Estonia and Finland. Serving a growing global customer base, Elcogen’s fuel and electrolyser cells, stacks, and modules are integrated into third-party systems, delivering exceptional performance and reliability. In addition to the supply of components, Elcogen offers comprehensive services to support technology integration, ensuring seamless adoption and optimal functionality of its solutions in various applications. These systems are designed to unlock the full potential of renewable energy, offering superior efficiency compared to traditional technologies. Together with its partners, Elcogen is shaping a sustainable energy landscape and leading the way to a net-zero future.
Role in CLEANHYPRO
As part of this project, Elcogen is building stacks from novel unit cells, conducting tests, and analyzing the results to demonstrate the functionality and feasibility of improved SOEC technology. Elcogen AS (its Estonia-based entity) is specifically cooperating with companies on cell modification and improvement, including new materials and microstructures. Elcogen Oy (its Finland-based entity) is focused on stack development and industrialisation.
Key Team Members
CLEANHYPRO benefits from the expertise of different members from Elcogen:
Minna Toivola, Project Coordinator for Elcogen Oy
Andrei Denissenko, R&D Project Manager for Elcogen AS
In their own words
“At Elcogen, we believe that the key to enabling the uptake of green hydrogen is reducing the current high cost of electrolyser manufacturing. This can be achieved by optimizing component design for mass manufacturing and finding ways to reduce reliance on critical raw materials in stacks and cells to mitigate any price and availability fluctuations“, said Andrei Denissenko, R&D Project Manager for Elcogen AS (Estonian entity).
“It’s fantastic that CLEANHYPRO has formed a collaborative platform for testing electrolysis materials and components, improving cell performance, lowering costs, and making clean hydrogen production more efficient. We’re proud to be a part of this Horizon Europe project“, said Minna Toivola, Project Coordinator for Elcogen Oy (Finnish entity).
