Iridium-free Water Electrolysis – AEM
Iridium is about 4 times rarer than gold, making it one of the most expensive metals with a current price of more than € 150 000 per kg. The total yearly production of iridium is only about 8-9 tons since there is no direct mining of iridium ore. Most of the iridium, 95%, is obtained as a by-product of platinum mining, namely in southern Africa.
Highlights from European Hydrogen Week with PNO

Large scale hydrogen production: The importance of the small scale
The production of hydrogen (and oxygen) via water electrolysis is a non-spontaneous process. This means that an external source of energy is needed to create a potential difference between the electrodes and drive the electrons flow. Theoretically, the minimum potential difference needed between the electrodes is ΔE = 1,23 V at standard conditions. However, the […]
CLEANHYPRO Project: Advanced Pilot Line for MEA Stack Manufacturing
CLEANHYPRO is at the forefront of an initiative aimed at creating a unified access point for industrial partners, particularly SMEs, to expand the production of electrolysis materials and components essential for generating green hydrogen. This effort seeks to decrease production costs and minimize risks, ultimately making green hydrogen more accessible and feasible. As part of […]
